Larissa has suffered severaly in the general system of extoction which Ali Pashaw has, so long remorsely practised. Many of the Greek families house emigrated; and the manufactures of the place, which consist of neatly stuped silk and cotton stuffs, calicoes and course cloths, have in consequence, greatly declined; for in this part of the empire, and indeed, throughout Greece and Macedonia, the Turks are rather amilitary than a civil race...
The bread in Larissa is better than in any part of the Turkish dominions which i have visited. Owing to the town having been, so lately before the headquarters of a large military body (Vilhi Pashaw’s troops werw marching to Moldowlachia), we found the price of every price of provision greatly enhanced. In ordinary times, the market is cheap and well supplied.
