Greeks, Jews, and Armenians, are all more degraded here (Larissa) in respect of civil privileges than in the towns which are in the hands of Aly Pasha, but have not so much to complain of on the score of forced contributions and the quartering of soldiers. This is the only place in Greece where I have seen camels: they are bred in the surrounding plains, and are sometimes used here for carrying burtheus; but they are chiefly employed for the caravans which communicate with Saloniki, Serres, Adrianople, and Constantinople.
